Hello World!
Hi! In my first blog post I will talk a little bit about myself and establish some personal goals of mine. I have very little experience in writing, so my posts might be mediocre at best in quality :) I will refrain from using LLMs apart from occasional grammar checks to make sure my posts represent me and me only. Otherwise blogs would have no meaning in my opinion.
First, some background. I am originally from Turkey but I moved to Italy to study. I have recently graduated from Computer Engineering at Politecnico di Torino and started doing a Masters degree in Cybersecurity Engineering at the same university. I was always interested in cybersecurity but never imagined it as a career. In fact, the reason I started learning programming in high school was because whenever I looked up “hacking tutorials” I would see the same warning over and over: “Learn programming, or else you will stay a script kiddie!”. This pushed me to learn programming by myself and later eventually study computer engineering.
Towards the end of my degree, I started having doubts about my career and what I actually wanted to do with my life. These doubts emerged slowly throughout my degree after talking with friends in the industry, and of course, browsing the internet. After some internal and external discussions I finally decided to get out of my comfort zone and start my cybersecurity journey. The easiest way to start for me was to start a masters degree on the subject, so I did! And I am very happy with my decision so far.
Seeing as I was (and currently am) relatively inexperienced, I knew I had to do a lot of learning and practice by myself. This blog will be a way for me to hold myself accountable and document my progress. Hopefully it will motivate me (and any potential reader) seeing how far I’ve come! I plan to share any interesting findings, write-ups and general “career” updates.
My current long-term goals are to finish my degree, get relevant cybersecurity certificates and find a satisfying internship! They are obviously connected to each other :)
Thank you for reading, and see you soon!
